BioCarbon Partnership Coordinator, Environmental Markets
Fauna & Flora International

Salary: Circa £35,000
Start Date: As soon as possible
Duration of contract: One-year fixed-term contract
Location: Fauna & Flora International, London, UK

Founded in 1903, Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is the world’s longest-established international conservation organisation.  Our vision is to create a sustainable future for the planet where biodiversity is conserved by the people living closest to it.  We aim to do this through the conservation of threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on sound science and take account of human needs. We operate primarily in developing countries where there is little capacity to conserve endangered and threatened habitats and species.  We have become a trusted entity in the world of conservation.  Today FFI is active in over 40 countries.

FFI has a unique collaboration with BioCarbon, a private sector investment partner whose mandate is to develop commercially viable projects for the generation of carbon credits. The unique collaboration aims to address drivers of deforestation by developing new economic opportunities for forest-dependent communities. The collaboration designs and implements high-quality projects to conserve ecosystems, reduce emissions, benefit local communities and provide an appropriate return on investment. The collaboration draws on skilled professionals from both FFI and BioCarbon, with specific expertise in forest carbon accounting and measurement; social and community inclusion; biodiversity assessment; and financial management.

Due to our expanding programme of work, FFI is seeking an individual to support our developing programme under the BioCarbon partnership.  You will work within the Environmental Markets team to support the BioCarbon partnership in administration; lead the design and implementation of biodiversity monitoring programs in a range of REDD projects globally; and identify and develop new REDD project opportunities. You will also play an important role in communicating the BioCarbon partnership internally and building internal capacity to develop projects through the BioCarbon partnership.

With a relevant advanced degree or equivalent level qualification in conservation biology, environmental science, environmental economics or business management, you will have a minimum of four years’ working experience in the environmental field involving ecosystem services.  Practical experience in undertaking biodiversity assessments and developing REDD projects is essential, as well as experience managing complex field projects, which enable partners and stakeholders to achieve conservation and community objectives.

You will be an effective communicator, experienced in collaborating effectively with partner organisations at all levels and working in a multi-cultural and geographically dispersed team.  A strong team player, you will enjoy working in a dynamic team environment where strategic approaches and conceptual thinking are being brought to deliver innovative projects that benefit conservation and communities.
