The World Land Trust (WLT) is an international conservation organisation that takes direct action to save tropical forest and other wildlife habitats. As well as supporting threatened wildlife these habitats perform a variety of important ecosystem services, such as carbon storage and water regulation. By safeguarding and restoring habitats such as tropical forests WLT’s projects help protect the ecosystem services on which we all depend. Where these ecosystem services benefits need to be quantified projects are designed and managed by WLT’s Ecosystem Services Team.

Job role

In the immediate term the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day administration and co-ordination of WLT’s Reforestation Programme. They will also provide support for the research and development of new ecosystem services projects and strategies and provide technical assistance on ecosystem services-related project activity, in particular the use of REDD+ techniques. It is intended that in the longer term project management of other ecosystem services programmes will also be assumed.

The successful applicant will be

  • Committed to achieving challenging goals with a strong problem-solving approach;
  • Capable of multi-tasking, able to work under pressure to tight deadlines, and willing to work outside normal working hours if required;
  • A team player, but equally confident working under own initiative.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent levels of experience in environmental science, conservation or natural resource management;
  • At least 12 months work experience, preferably within the environment sector;
  • A broad knowledge of issues and science relating to climate mitigation and adaptation, carbon offsetting and REDD+;
  • Excellent communication skills in English;
  • A proven interest in environmental issues and a commitment to WLT’s mission.

Desirable

  • Experience of project, programme and budget management, preferably within the environment sector;
  • Previous technical experience in the management of carbon offsetting and reforestation programmes;
  • Experience working on multi-stakeholder projects;
  • Other language skills.

Job Description

According to skills and experience, and following appropriate training, day-to-day activities will include:

  • Administration and co-ordination of WLT’s reforestation programme including the monitoring of progress to ensure contract compliance, management of budgets and reporting to WLT staff, Board and supporters.
  • Assistance with project development including preparation of feasibility studies, project proposals and budgets.
  • Development of partnerships with new and existing project partners and donors.
  • Development of communication material such as PowerPoint presentations and the presentation of these to the public, corporates and internally within WLT.
  • Represent the Ecosystem Services Team at external meetings, conferences and across the partner network.
  • General administration assistance for the Ecosystem Services Team.
