The postholder will work with partners and stakeholders to reconnect the Outer Humber Living Landscape by delivering enhancement and creation of wetland habitats which complement those found in the Humber estuary Natura Site and create an effective ecological corridor linking Spurn to Kingston upon Hull.

The post will sit within YWT’s Central Conservation team and work primarily in the East Riding of Yorkshire, and especially the Outer Humber Living Landscape area.

The Humber estuary SAC/SPA supports some of the most important species and habitats in Europe. It drains 1/5 of the UK whilst Holderness hosts major industry - shipping ports, gas and oil terminals and wind and gas energy generation. The Regional Biodiversity Strategy and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Living Landscape vision have both identified the Outer Humber as a key priority for biodiversity delivery in the Yorkshire and Humber Region.

The post will deliver the ‘Reconnecting the Outer Humber Living Landscape Project,’ this project is funded for three years and will deliver enhancement and creation of wetland habitats to create an effective ecological corridor linking Spurn to Kingston upon Hull.

Work will take place on YWT reserves and project partner sites to deliver national habitat targets for Lowland Meadows, Coastal and Floodplain Grazing Marsh and Fen. In addition the project will also contribute toward habitat targets for Saline Lagoons and Ponds as well as associated species such as avocet, reed bunting, water vole and sea lavender.
