Job Description

Role Purpose:

To drive the development of the company's sustainability agenda as part of the Britvic's Corporate Responsibility strategy, focusing on direct environmental impacts, supply chain (labour standards, H&S, business ethics and environment), and supporting product and brand sustainability development (eg packaging, ingredients).

Specific Areas of Role Accountability:

  • To lead development of the Britvic sustainability agenda as part of the Corporate Responsibility (CR) strategy and to implement policies and actions for its achievement, by effective engagement of the relevant business teams, and ensuring alignment with the corporate financial objectives.
  • Lead the company Supply Chain sustainable sourcing/trading programme, engaging with industry initiatives such as AIM-Progress and SEDEX, as appropriate, working closely with Procurement and Corporate Affairs to effectively implement and to maximise the corporate PR benefit and alignment with CR strategy.
  • Investigate and develop the company strategy with regard to external certification of product ingredients and manage the programme going forward.
  • Develop and implement the company strategy with regard to product Life Cycle Analysis in order to establish product/brand level impacts such as carbon and water footprints. Engage with the Brands, Development and Supply Chain teams to develop action plans to minimise these impacts.
  • Work with the Supply Chain teams and company HSE managers to develop strategies and actions to minimise company direct environmental impacts.
  • Work with Brands and Development to create a packaging strategy to optimise the environmental performance of our packaging.
  • Work with Customer Management and Corporate Affairs to effectively represent business progress on sustainability with our customers.
  • Collate and analyse group data associated with key performance indicators and prepare reports to senior managers, the board of directors, shareholders and investors and the appropriate sections of the annual CR report to the public.
  • Build effective relationships with key external stakeholders such as suppliers, trade bodies, regulatory bodies, NGO's and government agencies that enhance the company reputation for excellent sustainability and CR performance.
  • Assist the company's risk management process by co-ordinating and managing the company's sustainability risk register

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Experience in an environmental / sustainability mgt role ideally within a FMCG supply chain.
  • Strong awareness of the global, national and local trends and issues regarding the Environment and sustainability.
  • Sound working knowledge of supply chain sustainability risk management and development of competitively advantageous strategies.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • People leadership experience.
  • Project management and strong focus on delivery.
  • Familiarisation with the implementation and maintenance of certified ISO 14001 management systems and product life cycle assessment systems.
Requirements

Qualifications Required:

  • Educated to degree level in a Science, and / or Environment related subject.
  • Preferably Post Graduate qualification in Environmental / Sustainability discipline or Diploma in Environmental Management
  • Preferably Qualified Environmental Auditor
