Description

Policy

The job holder will:

  • Assist in maintaining the Departments Tree Management System and Conservation policy
  • Assist in implementing modern and appropriate arboricultural practices in managing veteran trees.
  • Assist in the selection of appropriate tools and machinery for the maintenance of tree stock.
  • Apply and develop Crown Estate environmental practices
  • Apply agreed health and safety policies
  • Assist in the review of health and safety assessments and ensure compliance with all assessments

Staff Management

Occasional management of seconded team member when team leader is absent

Resource management

The job holder is responsible for the safe use and care of the following resources:

  • Personal Protection Equipment
  • Hand tools and associated implements
  • Pooled resources such as tractors, generators etc when responsible for their use.

Communication

The job holder will:

  • Work within the team and when necessary keep the team leader informed of progress of work being carried out and provide prompt feedback of any incidents or unforeseen occurrences that may arise.
  • Carry out instructions as provided by the team leader or Assistant Superintendent.
  • Communicate with Crown Estate staff by provided mobile radio in the absence of team leader
  • Talk with interested members of the public to provide information, respond to questions and apply safety policy

Authorities

To follow standard instructions operated for the Parks Department and to operate within the Parks Department Tree Management System

To discuss and agree tree work programmes and conservation issues with the team leader and line managers.

Self management

To develop the personal skills which will contribute to effective team working within the Crown Estate and to take personal responsibility, with the support of line managers, for training so as to meet both personal development needs and the business objectives of the Crown Estate.

Team working

The job holder as an integral part of a small team will work safely and diligently in pursuance of their job objective and in the positive way they represent the Crown Estate.
